Introduction

I wanted to design a Meditation chair that promotes comfort and relaxation, along with holistic wellness being one of my motivations the other was my parents dedication to meditation and to provide a supportive and aesthetically pleasing solution for personal meditation spaces. This problem is particularly challenging since balancing comfort, aesthetics and the constant struggle with discomfort during long sessions

Meditation As an Activity

Focusing your attention is generally one of the most important elements of meditation. Focusing your attention is what helps free your mind from the many distractions that cause stress and worry. You can focus your attention on such things as a specific object, an image, a mantra, or even your breathing.

Correct Posture & Form.

1. Choose Your Seat :

   a) Sitting on the Floor:
Sit cross-legged or with your legs folded in front of you.

    b) Sitting on a Chair:
Sit toward the front edge of a sturdy, flat chair with your feet flat on the floor.

2. Align Your Spine:
Whether sitting on the floor or a chair, ensure your spine is straight and upright, without slouching or leaning.

3. Shoulder Position:
Roll your shoulders back and down, allowing your chest to open

4. Head and Neck:
Tilt your chin slightly downward, keeping your neck aligned with your spine.

Reflections

The Kaizen project was a deeply personal endeavor inspired by my parents' dedication to meditation. Designing a Meditation chair that addressed their discomfort during long sessions was not only a professional challenge but also a labor of love. Collaborating with Kinnal Artisans to seamlessly integrate traditional craftsmanship into modern design was a highlight, showcasing the beauty of Indian artistry. Balancing comfort, aesthetics, and cultural relevance was a significant challenge, but the end result—a comfortable, supportive, and aesthetically pleasing chair—was immensely rewarding.
